If you are using a self-tanning products, use an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells, otherwise you might be left with a blotchy tan.

Your skin can change from hormones, climate, stress and age throughout your life. So you need to understand the benefits of making exfoliating a part of your skin care health and why it needs to be a step in your regular skin care routine.

The Basics of Exfoliating:

Your skin sheds skin cells continuously. These dead skin cells can sit on the surface of the skin (naked to the eye) and stick together — either blocking pores to cause blemishes or dulling the appearance of your skin. And as you age this process will slow. So you need to remove these skin cells to improve the health of your skin. Exfoliating is beneficial for all types of skin and all types of skin concerns.

The 'Tween or Teen
Do not scrub your skin! If your skin is changing — maybe breaking out, showing signs of acne or becoming oilier, the tendency might be to scrub the skin. But this is not what you should do to your skin — at all! Be gentle to your skin. If you scrub your skin, you can spread bacteria and cause more blemishes or further aggravate your skin. Using our Gentle Refinishing Scrub, can be an important step in the health of your skin. The top layer of your skin continuously replaces itself, flaking dead skin cells across your face. These cells are too small to be visible, but stick together to clog your pores and can lead to blemishes. You need to exfoliate twice per week (but no more than that!) to remove these dead skin cells. Your skin's clean surface will make your makeup look better and your acne products more effective and easier to absorb. Do not scrub your face, let the exfoliant do the work for you!

20 Something/30 Something
In your twenties and early thirties, it is important to have a solid skin care routine for the health of your skin. You skin may look healthy but it is slowly aging and you need to be prepared with good skin care habits that are specific to your skin type. If you are not sure about your skin type, it is best to consult with an esthetician. Schedule an InSpa facial and your esthetician will analyze your skin to determine your skin type, as well as, make recommendation for your specific skin care needs.

The main benefit of using an exfoliant during this time in your life is to make your skin care products work harder for you. If you remove the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, it will better absorb the ingredients and skin care treatments that you apply. So if you are treating your skin for a specific concern (dry, acne, anti-aging, etc) these will be more effective when they can better penetrate the surface of your skin. We recommend our Gentle Refinishing Scrub to gently remove but not irritate.

Aging Skin

If you have aging skin, now is the time to reduce any signs of aging and apply prevention. As you age, the nature process of shedding dead skin cells dramatically slows down. For a strong exfoliation, AHA Refinishing Serum uses our patented AHAminoPlex™ molecule, which allows the skin to tolerate exfoliation with little-to-no irritation because of a controlled time-release process, along with clinically-tested levels of calming plant extracts to soothe. For those who have not been able to handle glycolic acid in the past, this gentle exfoliation will resurface the skin and smooth painlessly. Look younger and improve the surface of your oily skin with our AHA Refinishing Serum. If your skin has been unable to handle glycolic acid, AHA Refinishing Serum is as effective but gentle at limiting the sign of aging. It is safe for home use at ingredient levels of 10% AHA and 3.5 pH. Return the glow to your skin that you had in your twenties!

Mature Skin
If there is any age group that needs to be vigilante about exfoliating, it is mature skin. Speed up the process by exfoliating 2 or 3 times per week with a gentle exfoliant. Our Dermabrasion Refinishing Scrub will aggressively remove the dead skin cells, while being gentle to your skin. Revealing younger, new skin in seconds, Dermabrasion Resurfacing Scrub will minimize signs of sun-damage and reduce discoloration, such as age spots with continued use. Our Dermabrasion Refinishing Scrub blends the smallest of all buffing crystals, Volcanic Microcrystals, with a conditioning crème containing soothing Green Tea, Chamomile and Licorice. This is a gentle, at-home alternative to machine-microdermabrasion to gently polish and smooth fine lines.
