What are the benefits of massage?
Aside from relaxation for the body and tranquility for the
mind, massage therapy offers several more concrete benefits.
It increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the muscles and
helps remove metabolic waste, reducing soreness and increasing
flexibility. Massage can also help reduce pain from past injuries,
alleviate tension headaches, and heal chronic injuries.
What should I do to prepare for my massage?
Perhaps one of the best aspects of massage is that you really
don’t have to prepare for it all — simply come
in and enjoy the experience. Be ready to relax, and plan to
turn off your pager and/or cell phone. Remember, this is your
time for yourself!

What should I wear for my massage?
Whatever makes you feel most at ease. Our massage practitioners
are trained to respect your privacy, and will keep your body
continually covered with a sheet — uncovering only one
part at a time in order to work on it. Typically, no clothes
are worn under the sheet, but many people are more comfortable
wearing shorts or leaving their undergarments on. InSpa also
offers two clothed massage options. For our Tension Relief
Massage, you will be asked only to remove your tie, belt and
shoes so that you will be more comfortable.
I might be uncomfortable receiving a massage from
a person of the opposite sex. Do I have a choice?
You always have that option at InSpa. FYI, all of our massage
practitioners are professionals and feel completely comfortable
treating members of both sexes. Each has more than 1,000 hours
of massage training and education, and is licensed by the
State of Washington.

What should I do when I arrive at InSpa?
Check in at the front desk. You will be asked to fill out
a brief confidential intake form to establish if you have
any medical conditions that should be taken into consideration.
The massage practitioner will read it when meeting you, discuss
the style of massage you have chosen, and ask if your body
has any areas that need particular attention. You may also
want to let your massage practitioner know if this is your
first massage, or first experience with a particular type
of massage.
How will my massage begin?
Once in the massage room, you will receive instruction on
how to position yourself on the table, and then left to undress
and climb under the sheet in privacy. It is generally helpful
for you to remove necklaces, bracelets, watches and earrings,
but not required. Your massage practitioner will knock before
entering the room, to make sure you are ready.

What should I do during my massage?
Relax! Many people find that one of the best things about
massage is not having to do anything at all. Allow the massage
practitioner to position you without assisting him/her —
be passive. This is your time. Feel free to let us know if
you feel too cold or too hot; if something tickles, hurts
or is not quite comfortable; or if it feels just right.
Will I get oil in my hair?
That depends. No oil is used during our clothed massages.
The InSpa massage uses oil on the arms, legs and back, but
not the neck or shoulders. And Swedish-style massage generally
includes the application of oil to the neck and scalp, unless
you request otherwise.

What if I fall asleep?
Sleep happens. You may need it! We will quietly wake you when
your massage is over.
What happens at the end of my massage?
Your massage practitioner will leave the room and allow you
to dress in privacy. It’s a good idea to drink plenty
of water after a massage; feel free to stop by our water cooler
on your way to the front desk to pay — and remember,
InSpa has a "no tipping" policy.
